On the Move!

It is with great honor and joy that I will be the next artist-in-residence at the William Steeple Davis Home and Studio in Orient, New York.  The home and studio are side by side, in a small town on the very tip of the North Fork of Long Island, New York. I will take residence for one year, beginning this fall.

Born in 1884, William Steeple Davis was a life-long resident of Orient, an artist who worked in his studio as a painter and photographer, and harbored a deep reverence for the tranquility of Orient and the North Fork. After passing away in 1961, Mr. Davis left his home and property in a trust to ensure that each year, one new artist would be chosen to reside in the home and use the studio for any cultural activity they choose. For so many decades, his gift has afforded many visual artist, poets, musicians, and writers the space and time to live and create as they please. I am so honored to take part in this trust and tradition, and to learn more about the artists who have resided here before me, as well as, Mr. Davis.

Leaving Portugal and entering into this new adventure is totally exciting and bittersweet. My time living abroad has affected many aspects of how I see ‘living a life.’ It’s been an experience I never imagined would happen to me, I didn’t grow up traveling internationally, I didn’t dream of this. I just felt compelled at one point in my life and I went. I feel the opportunity to experience this artist residency is similarly compelling, so gratefully, I am headed back for now.

I have no doubt that a year of living in Orient will also be an opportunity that I will enter with my eyes open, ready to work, and learn more about myself and a new community.

I will be emailing a bi-monthly newsletter to your inbox, if you chose to follow along. Please sign-up below to stay in the loop and see what I am discovering and working on. See you there.
