Frequently Asked Questions

What is enamel?

The word, “enamel” is used often from painting nails to cars and within jewelry, it ranges from cheap factory made little pins, to completely handcrafted. The words, “vitreous enamel” describe the material I uses in my work. This is glass ground down to a powder form that is fired on metal in a kiln at a very high temperature (1500F / 750C) multiple times. It is a tedious and laborious process that mostly crazy people endure, but the result is so glassy and succulent, and those colors NEVER fade.

I do continuously try to describe my process through my Instagram account, please find me there @laurafortunestudio
